We are thrilled to announce the release of the eight Whakapuāwai Podcast Series episode, featuring insightful kōrero by Maui Solomon (Moriori/Ngai Tahu).
Maui is a barrister, renowned Indigenous rights activist, mediator, and negotiator in Aotearoa, the Pacific, and internationally. With 35 years of legal experience, he has specialised in Treaty Law, land and fishing claims, cultural and intellectual property, and environmental law. Maui has represented iwi Māori from throughout Aotearoa as well as other peoples from around the Pacific.
With an outstanding career and personal history as a legal and political leader, Maui has also been a longstanding advocate for the recognition of the customary rights and identity of Moriori. He was the chief negotiator for the Moriori Treaty Settlement, which was signed in February 2020.
